How coaching works, explained inside the section
Coaching is two systems that meet at five points. Almost every question it creates is someone assuming a coach controls something the club controls, or assuming a step happens on its own when a person has to take it.
The problem this solves
A club owner sets coaching up once, then answers the same handful of questions forever: why a lesson request expired, who sets the price, whether a lesson holds a court, why a coach's earnings look wrong, and whether Picklebeast pays the coach. Those all have clear answers, and none of them were written down where the person asking was standing.
Coaches had the same problem from the other side. Nobody is told they have been added, and the two things that surprise a new coach, that a request lapses after 48 hours and that marking a lesson complete is what makes it count, were learned by being caught out by them.
How it works now
Coaching opens on an Overview tab that lays the whole system out on one page: who owns what, the five handoffs between your club and your coach in the order they happen, and what every page in the section is for.
- Your club owns the catalog and the money. Your coach owns their time. Each handoff is labelled with who acts, so you can see at a glance which steps are yours
- Twelve short guides sit underneath it, five written for coaches and seven for your team
- Your coaches already have their five in the coach portal, under How It Works, so there is nothing to send
- The page map only lists pages you can actually open, and each row takes you there
- Every guide is searchable from anywhere with Command K, by the question you would actually type, like "lesson request expired" or "does a lesson book a court"
What it is honest about
The guides are written to be true rather than flattering. Where Picklebeast expects a person to do something, the page says so instead of implying it is automatic.
- Your club is the merchant of record, so a lesson payment settles to your club. Picklebeast records what each coach has earned; it does not pay them
- Adding a coach does not notify them. Tell them yourself
- A lesson holds a court only when a court is attached, so courts are a separate step
- A lesson request lapses after 48 hours, and a decline tells the member while an expiry does not
- Suspending a coach stops new bookings but does not cancel the lessons already on the calendar
Getting to it
Open Coaching and it is the first tab. Any staffer who can see your Coaches page can read it. Coaches find their own set in the coach portal under How It Works. Free on every plan with Coaching, and there is nothing to turn on.
