Charge several players in one payment

Two people walk up to your desk and one of them says they are getting both. Until now that was two transactions, two receipts, and often the same card handed over twice.

The problem this solves

A court booking with four players who each owe their own share meant running the card reader four times, even when one person was paying for the group. Couples were the common case and the most annoying one: two charges, two receipts, and a queue behind them.

Staff worked around it by charging one person the whole amount, which balanced the till and lost the record of who had actually played and paid, so a refund later had nothing to refund against.

How it works

  • Open the check-in drawer, the same one you already use. Everyone who still owes starts ticked, with a running total at the top.
  • Untick anyone who is not part of this payment. The total updates as you go, so the number on the button is what the card will be charged.
  • Choose who is paying. Their card is charged and the receipt goes to them.
  • Tap once. Everyone you ticked is marked paid, without refreshing the page.

It prices each person as themselves

A member and a guest paying together are each charged their own rate, rather than both paying one price. The total is the sum of what each of them individually owes, worked out on our servers rather than on the screen.

Everyone keeps their own line on the roster even though it was one payment. That matters later: you can refund one of them without touching the others, which is the whole reason not to just charge one person the lot.

The careful parts

Anyone who was invited but has not accepted yet is left out on purpose, because there is no spot to collect for until they accept.

If the amount changes while the bar is open, because another staffer comped a row or applied a discount, you are shown the new total rather than the old number being charged quietly.

If a card is declined, nobody is charged and everyone stays on the session. If a payment cannot be confirmed, you are told not to run it again on that card, because re-running a payment that may already have gone through is how somebody gets charged twice.

The bar only appears once two or more people are ticked. For a single player, the dollar-sign button on their row works exactly as it always has.

Available on every plan with a connected Stripe account. It needs the same permission as taking any other payment, so a staffer who cannot process payments cannot take a group payment either.
