Every round reshuffles the ladder

A Mexicano-style rung ladder league where players move between rungs between every round — not once a week. Every match you play has consequences tonight.

How it works

16 players show up on league night split into 4 rungs of 4. Round 1 plays. When all four courts finish, the top 2 of each rung promote up one rung, the bottom 2 drop down one rung. Round 2 pairings are generated against the new rungs. Repeat for every round in the session.

Round 1
Rung 1: A · B · C · D Rung 2: E · F · G · H
Top 2 of rung 2 move up ↑ · Bottom 2 of rung 1 move down ↓
Round 2
Rung 1: A · B · E · F Rung 2: C · D · G · H

Why it works

Every round matters

A bad round sends you down. A hot round sends you up. Nobody coasts through a session that already peaked.

You play different partners every round

The system avoids repeat pairings across rounds, so you're constantly matched with new combinations.

Rung position persists across nights

End the night on Rung 1? You start next week there. Your season-long climb is its own story.

Built on the existing rung ladder

It's one checkbox on the league setup form: Movement: Weekly (classic) or Per Round (Mexicano). Everything else — rungs, points, partner rotation, standings — stays the same. Toggle to try the format, toggle back if your players prefer the slower cadence.
