Every round reshuffles the ladder
A Mexicano-style rung ladder league where players move between rungs during the night, not once a week. Move after every round, or set a rotation so everyone plays each person in their rung first. Every match you play has consequences tonight.
Choose when the ladder moves
By default the ladder moves after every round. You can also set a rotation: everyone in a rung plays each other person in that rung first, and only then does anyone move. With 4 to a rung that is 3 matches, so a night runs as sets of 3, and you can play as many sets as you like before you close the week.
You pick this when you set the league up, and you can change it later on the league's edit page, so a ladder you are already running can switch without starting a new one.
When a set starts, all of its rounds go up on your Command Center at once. Before the first ball is hit you can see and read out who plays who in every round of that set, which is the part a rotation makes possible and a round-by-round ladder cannot. Players on their phones still see the round in play rather than the whole set.
A player who walks in part way through is added to the rounds that have not been played yet, and those matchups are redrawn around them. Rounds you have already scored are left alone.
How it works
16 players show up on league night split into 4 rungs of 4. Round 1 plays. When all four courts finish, the top 2 of each rung promote up one rung, the bottom 2 drop down one rung. Round 2 pairings are generated against the new rungs. Repeat for every round in the session.

A bad round sends you down. A hot round sends you up. Nobody coasts through a session that already peaked.

Built on the existing rung ladder
It is one choice on the league setup form: Movement: Weekly (classic) or Per Round (Mexicano), and on Per Round you also say how many rounds everyone plays in their rung before anyone moves. Everything else stays the same: rungs, points, partner rotation, standings. Change it to try the format, change it back if your players prefer the slower cadence.
